Italian rock outfit hijss are gearing up to drop their self-titled record on 18th September via Heavy Psych Sounds, and The Shaman is thrilled to premiere the video for their new single, s.w.a.n.
Hailing from the summits of Northern Italy, the trio cooks up a feverish, genre-defying sound they call ‘kosmo kraut’ – a high-octane collision of fuzzy grunge riffs, motorik rhythms, post-punk grit, and dizzying space-rock atmosphere.
The video for s.w.a.n. pairs the track’s raw and trippy intensity with stark, surreal imagery. Rendered in high-contrast black and white, the footage opens on a herd of cows serenely wandering an open field – a visual directly tied to the artwork of the upcoming album. As the sonics expand, the countryside scene gradually warps and dissolves, morphing the quiet livestock into intense shots of the band performing at full tilt.
It’s a striking visual contrast that mirrors the group’s broader sonic philosophy: blending raw, elemental patience with unpredictable trippy energy. The seven-minute track acts as an encapsulating preview of what to expect when the full album lands in September.

Drawing from grunge, post-punk and modern space rock, they have set as their mission to propel us into the stratosphere in a giant blaze of crunch and groove, hitting with a fierce punk attitude while melding gritty riffs, feverish basslines and kraut-infused madness. All three hijss members come from a wide musical background, yet their common denominator is without a doubt their punk attitude. hijss puts genres in the background, zapping from punk over blues to space and psychedelic rock. Stimulated by the musical instinct of band leader Lois Lane (guitar & vocals), drummer Maurice‘s ferocious hits and bassist and keyboardist Pan’s catchy scales, their fearless sonic explorations does not only scratch the surface but goes deep under your skin. Hailed as ‘catchy, aggressive and experimental’ and ‘a breath of fresh air for those craving originality and excitement’, their debut album stuck on common ground was released in the spring of 2024 through Heavy Psych Sounds.
