Premiere: Karellen ‘Mersum’ – Debut Album Drops Friday 27th August Via Trepanation Recordings

25th August 202127th September 2021 Lee Edwards Karellen, Post-Metal, Trepanation Recordings

There seems to be a pattern occurring of late as although I’m Manchester based (well Salford if you really want to get technical), the post and prog metal stylings of Karellenare yet another new band to grace these pages as I wasn’t aware of them until the promo for their debut album, Mersum, landed in my inbox a few weeks back.

Set to be released this Friday, 27th August, through Trepanation Recordings, Scott was quick to pick it up for review where he said ‘Karellen’s take on doom, prog and song dynamics deliver an interesting and rewarding album’, and following on from that, the band comments about the writing process…

‘When we started Karellen we were just looking to get in a room and jam, just play some riffs we loved and share some ideas. Creating our first EP it was clear we had real chemistry, and by the time we finished writing The Transmutation all the pieces had started to fall into place. We started writing more progressive songs, experimenting with time signatures and bringing in influences from different genres. The end result was our debut album Mersum and we are incredibly proud of what we’ve created, and excited about where we can go next. We exercised our demons with this record; and we hope that it can do the same for someone else out there somewhere.’

And now today, it’s our absolute pleasure to bring you a premiere of Mersum in its entirety prior to Friday’s release, so sit back, and click play below…

More on Karellen & ‘Mersum’

Karellen are a three piece from Manchester who fuse doom, sludge and prog metal into their own unique and complex sound. Comprising of six tracks, Mersum is Karellen’s debut album and follows on from 2019’s EP Call Of The Void. Mersum expands on the band’s already mature sound to create a sonic journey well worth taking.

As well as a digital download, Mersum will be available on limited edition CD and cassette through Trepanation Recordings with a release date of 27th August, pre-orders are available over on Bandcamp.
