SoftSun unveil their new single Sacred Heart, blending shoegaze atmosphere with doomgaze weight in a sound that is both immersive and reflective.
With Gary Arce’s expansive guitar textures and Pia Isaksen’s bass and vocals at the core, and this time around accompanied by Robert Garson on drums, the track offers a glimpse of the band’s forthcoming album Eternal Sunrise, set for release on 7th November via Heavy Psych Sounds.
The accompanying video, edited by Pia, pairs the track with drifting surfing footage that mirrors its ebb and flow. Fluid and dreamlike, the imagery deepens the music’s sense of movement and space, highlighting SoftSun’s ability to balance heaviness with serenity.
About the track, the band says, ‘We are happy to share some more new music from our new album, and this is the very first song we wrote for it. It is a very slow-paced song with a wave-like pulse. It has a very personal meaning to us, inspired by feelings of this magnetic pull between things or beings that naturally belong together. On this album, we have combined softness and noise, pretty melodies and gnarly guitar sounds, which can definitely be heard throughout this song as well.’

SoftSunbrings together two visionary musicians from opposite sides of the world: Yawning Man guitarist Gary Arce from the Californian Mojave Desert and vocalist and bassist Pia Isaksen from the cold and ever-inspiring grounds of Norway.
Arce’s trademark cinematic guitar soundscapes provide a stark contrast to Isaksen‘s heavy and melodic compositions, as her ethereal vocals elevate the sound to dreamy shoegaze realms.
Although formed in 2023, the journey started in 2020 when Arce played guitar on the first album of Isaksen‘s solo project Pia Isa. Discovering how perfectly their musical expressions fit together, they knew they really wanted to create more music together. With Arce‘s unique and beautiful guitar melodies and sounds, Isaksen‘s heavy bass and haunting vocals, combined with Dan Joeright‘s perfectly patient drumming, SoftSun delivers heavy, mellow, and dreamy music with its own sound.
After a few years of collaborating on two of Pia‘s albums from opposite sides of the planet (Moss in Norway and Yucca Valley in California) and becoming good friends, Gary and Pia finally met in person in late 2023. They instantly became inseparable and started planning their musical project.
